Established in 2007, the Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award recognises projects that improve the physical conditions of communities and the lives of their residents, establishing a network of urban initiatives at the grassroots level.

Mumbai

2007

Two of Mumbai's most successful urban projects were awarded a shared prize of $100,000 by Dr. Josef Ackermann, Chairman of the Managing Board at Deutsche Bank, Dr. Angela Merkel, German Chancellor and SM Krishna, Governor of the State of Maharashtra on 1 November, 2007. Read more.

São Paulo

2008

In 2002, twenty students from the school of architecture at the University of São Paulo Paulo began an investigation of innovative alternatives to precarious housing conditions throughout the city. In 2008, the Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award awarded US $100,000 in recognition of their efforts and the impact the upgrading has had in the Bom Retiro neighbourhood of São Paulo. Read more.

Istanbul

2009

In November 2009, the third Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award went to Music for Peace, an urban intervention in the form of a community music project located in Edirnekapi, one of Istanbul's most disadvantaged inner-city neighbourhoods. Read more.

Mexico City

2010

In July 2010, the 4th Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award was presented to the Asamblea Comunitaria de Miravalle (Miravalle Community Council), a community-based project that runs a comprehensive set of cultural, health, environmental, educational and employment programs within a low-income neighbourhood on the outskirts of the city.
